Wed, 29 November 2006 ![]() Voice Mail: (206) DEW TOOT If you live in the Edison, NJ area, be sure to check out Halloween in December on December 9 from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. with lots of vendors, performers, costume contest, Rocky Horror, murder mystery theater, zombies, costume contests, etc. Sounds awesome! Halloween is a far superior holiday to Christmas. Clerks II was just released on DVD. In London's West End, The Rocky Horror Show is returning at the Comedy Theatre from December 21 through January 27, 2007. David Bedella plays Dr. Frank N Furter, Suzanne Shaw plays Janet, Sue Blane did costume design, etc. The Comedy Theatre is located at 6 Panton Street, London, UK. For more info, call 0870 060 6637 or visit http://www.rockyhorror.co.uk. Tonight's topic: Cast people who show up late or don't show up at all. We discuss different instances and how they should be handled. Also ride-sharing issues are discussed. Tonight's Fantasy Cast was surprisingly easy: Hip Hop Stars. Bad jokes. You may want to fast forward. In honor of Clerks II, we review the original Kevin Smith movie Clerks. Check out Margaret Cho's new MySpace video My Puss. Comments[9] |
Thu, 23 November 2006 ![]() Voice mail: 206-DEW-TOOT Laura's house is infested with airplanes. Tonight's topic: What does your cast do about underage performers? (Thanks for the idea Bill, Unkie Bill, hey buddy you cant sleep here move it along, etc). Next week's topic, unless we change our minds: Ride requests and cast members who just don't show up. Fantasy cast: The Simpsons Sean and Jeanne spent 13 hours waiting outside Toys R Us for their Nintendo Wii (snicker). Nobody in Laura's family has five nipples. Howdy to bfierra from from the Rockypod Livejournal community. He does good fantasy castage. Cleaning tips: Handwash your spacesuit and spraying Febreez is not cleaning. For Thanksgiving, we give thanks to Richard O'Brien for giving us this bad movie. Movie review: Milo and Otis, in which a cute kitty and pug dog have adventures in a box. Tue, 21 November 2006 Sean and I will be recording tomorrow night instead of tonight as Sean has a big paper due. I am a little concerned, because my family is leaving town Thursday morning to spend the night at my sister-in-laws in middle Georgia for Thanksgiving and we won't be back until Friday night. Therefore, the plan is to try to keep the show sort of short and get it online Wednesday night--I may have to pull an all-nighter and let my husband Dwight drive. Don't be shocked though if the show goes up Saturday, though. Arggggh!--self-imposed stress.... The good news is my power supply is in so the show should sound pretty good. Again, I apologize for the crappy quality of last week's show but it couldn't be helped. Fortunately few of you downloaded it, but I don't want this podcast series to be judged by that! Also, one of our listeners (Davey from Downhome Decadence of West Virginia) has let me know that he is starting another podcast. That is excellent! When he gets through the testing phase and has it ready to go live, we'll be sure to let everyone know! I'll have to change our tagline! It is just craziness that there wasn't a Rocky Horror podcast before we started this one. ~Laura Category: blog post -- posted at: 8:07 PM Comments[6] |
Mon, 20 November 2006 Saturday night we had a smallish but very appreciative audience. They were truly funny and played with the cast. I love it when they are like that. There were only two virgins there, which might have had something to do with it. I like to see no more than 10 virgins on any given show, because they are usually bewildered and overwhelmed and are not comfortable yet with AP. Too many of them causes a sense of repression in the show. I was playing Magenta and Wheeler was playing Columbia (originally he was Eddie and Cesar was Columbia but they transformed during Hot Patootie. You had to be there). Unfortunately Wheeler and I got a little carried away in the lesbian scene and his shoulder hit the candellabra, causing it to hit the concrete floor HARD and shatter. It can be fixed but it's going to take some dowels to hold it together, which will make it even MORE top heavy therefore more likely to tip over. I wonder if weights can be attached at the base, like I have on my mic stands. This would give whomever is playing Riff a workout of the arm muscles, so that would be awesome. ~Laura Category: blog post -- posted at: 8:06 AM Comments[6] |
Thu, 16 November 2006 I am so distressed about the last show. I hope we don't lose subscribers because it sounded so different and so much didn't get recorded. The iRiver's interface leaves much to be desired. What was missed? A child asking us to hold it down as she was working on her science fair project. Also the librarian kicking us out. Oh well. The good news is the Giant Squid mic worked really well, considering the bad situation. I wish I could have gotten bed music to hide so much rattling around, though. ---------------- My broken toe is doing much better and I am going to try to play Magenta again on Saturday night. Wed, 15 November 2006 ![]() Voice mail: 1-206-DEW-TOOT (206-339-8668) First of all, please forgive the quality of this episode. Laura's Mac G4 has a faulty power supply, and while a refurbished one has been ordered, we did not have a computer that would run GarageBand (our usual audio-editing software) or even Audacity. Sean has a very nice PC laptop, but he is running a beta copy of Vista on it and Audacity is not compatible. We were reduced to recording with an iRiver. It worked, but unfortunately, we stopped recording at the end and didn't get it running correctly so the end of the show was lost. Laura tried to re-record what was lost but it just wasn't the same. As all our music is on the bad computer, we didn't have access to the old public domain recorded music that we use for bed music. During this episode, we discuss what brought us to joining our casts. Everyone always talks about how they first lost their Rocky virginity, but no one ever says what motivated them to become cast members, if indeed they did do so. If you are on a cast, tell us why you joined! Laura tells a few Basher of Scheme's Rocky Horror riddles until Sean puts a stop to it! Heh heh, you can read the rest of them in the November 8 blog post. Our fantasy cast is made up of Disney villains and/or princesses. We begin to discuss the 1980 comedy Airplane, but this is where the recording dies and Laura has to recreate it from memory. Oh well. Anyway, it's one of the funniest movies ever made and if you haven't ever seen it or it's been a while, check it out. You will laugh--I guaran-damn-tee it! Check us out at blubrry.com, spelled without any e's. Comments[2] |

Wed, 8 November 2006 ![]() Voice Mail: (206) DEW TOOT Pardon the crackly sound of the show. For bed music, I used blues from the early 20th century ("I'm So Glad" by Skip James) and it had a lot of pop and hiss. I think it's charming. News: If you live in the Atlanta area and are a regular at the Lips Down On Dixie show at the Plaza Theater, be advised that they will not be having their show on Friday night November 10th due to Out on Film, the 19th Annual Atlanta LGBT Film Festival, which will be at the Plaza from November 10th-16th. Instead Lips Down On Dixie will be performing on Saturday Nov. 11. If you regularly attend both LDOD and Lambda Psi Phi shows, you're going to have to make a choice--warm up your coin-tossin' hand because it's going to get a workout. McFarlane Toys has recreated The Rocky Horror Picture Show's movie poster as a 3-D collectible, to be released February 2007. You can see creepy and disturbing photos of the poster here. Sean rants about how difficult it is now to get McFarlane toys lately. Kevin from Crazed Imaginations asked why don't casts do holiday shows? Usually our cast does shows for Christmas and New Year's but last year the holidays fell on Saturday, which is when our cast usually performs and we didn't have enough people in town to perform. We can't remember if our theater even played RHPS those nights. What does your cast do to celebrate the holidays? Nobody ever does a Thanksgiving show, it seems. Why not? Thanksgiving is always overlooked. Cult movie review: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory vs. Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Let the yummy battle begin! Sean rants about the most evil man in the movies. Fantasy Cast as suggested by Jessie aka Loserface from MySpace: Super Heroes. Megan on MySpace is on the cast of The Black Hole, which will open March 1, 2007 at the Chicago Rock Cafe, Lincoln, UK. The cost is £5 and the ticket hotline is: 07857 019 577. Sun, 5 November 2006 As you may have gathered from our last podcast, Sean and I were to play with some of our cast Lambda Psi Phi at a special show at Kennesaw State University Saturday night. This was an awesome time. The audience was large--approximately 300 people showed up--and the last I heard we nearly sold out of prop bags. Much toilet paper was thrown all over the auditorium and a lot of folks dressed up. This was the first time I have ever performed RHPS on an actual theatrical stage and we weren't blocked for that much staging area real estate. The lights were low in the back so that the movie could be projected there and Rod, who was doing photography, complained that people needed to play more toward the front of the stage to take advantage of overhead lights. But we were all so used to almost touching the screen that it was hard moving outwards. We had the bare minimums in props, basically what had been saved from when our old theater closed from when our cast was performing at two different movie theaters at the same time(!). Those props had been stored in our cast leader's attic for three years and then when I brought them in they smelled like dead animals so I sprayed them with Febreez and then washed them! We had one space suit which I wore as Magenta (with a banged-up foot and a walking cane). Sean brought a Space Ghost suit for Jason, who was playing Riff, to wear in the space suit scene. No Eddie stuff. Two floor showish pieces of lingerie. I brought my Riff jacket for Jason. I brought my Playtex gloves for Jessie, who was Frank. Eyepatch Josh brought his late grandmother's wheelchair. We had a great canvas laundry tank which had been stored in a rehearsal theater. Sean fit inside as Rocky and also he and Renee, who was playing Janet, easily fit inside. It rolled easily and we kept acting like we were going to push it off the stage just to freak Sean out (didn't work). Afterwards, Sean, Jeanne, Jason, Rod and I went to Marietta Diner, where we used to go back in the Blackwell and then the Marietta Star days. The floor manager who tried to throw us all out once and whom we called Lurch still worked there. Good times. ------------------ We're still interested in setting up phone interviews. If you'd like for us to call you, let us know your phone number and when we can reach you. It's really fun. Just email the information--rockypod at aim.com. Sat, 4 November 2006 Sean and I both work in the same photolab with our castleader Laurie, as you may or may not know. On Wednesday, I was struggling to open and load a new roll of 24" paper and clumsily dropped it on my foot, which was clad in cotton kung fu shoes. I think I broke my toe. At any rate, it has the appearance of the discolored and bloated foot of a drowning victim. It hurts like hell, but I am now able to put some weight on it. I have been keeping it wrapped, icing it and using my daughter's crutches from when she tore a ligament last spring. I am going to play Magenta tonight at a special show at Kennesaw University. Should be interesting. I may send my dear husband out to buy a walking cane, because crutches are so clumsy. Whatever you do, don't tell me to break a leg! ~Laura Category: blog post -- posted at: 1:08 PM Comments[2] |
Thu, 2 November 2006 We are now recording our shows on Tuesdays due to Sean's school schedule and it's a lot easier to get the shows out before our deadline, which is Friday mornings, eastern time. Our goal each week is to have a show up before the Rocky showings on Friday nights, although for other parts of the world we may not make it in time! Having the Tuesday recordings helps so much. Does anyone have any show topics or discussions we haven't yet covered? Are any events coming up that you'd like us to contact you about? Do you have a podcast and want to share promos with us? Do you know anyone who we should interview or should we interview you? Please let us know in the comments or through email at rockypod -@- aim.com (remove the dashes and spaces). Thanks! Cast List for Lambda Psi Phi How Rocky has made changes in our lives. The jobs both Sean and Laura have now they would not have found if they didn't know the Lambda Psi Phi cast leader, who got them the interviews. Laura never would have worked at Dragon*con all these years if she didn't know folks from Rocky. Also Laura wouldn't have known how to take off her bra without first removing her shirt if she hadn't seen it done in virgin races (Listen to this One-Minute How To podcast episode where Laura explains this very thing to host George Smyth). Sean also got a previous job by knowing the cast leader's brother. Also Sean used to call up the local Time Warp BBS (remember those?) back in pre-Internet days when he lived in Savannah and got to know a lot of people through that Rocky connection. We digress into a discussion of strange fake genitalia. Sean has met his current and two former longtime girlfriends through Rocky. Also our cast leader and her brother learned to use a computer because of Rocky. Laura went to a scary party when she was 19 or 20 where she was really high and paranoid and this drunk guy was threatening to rape and murder her in the street. She and her friends escaped the party and then went to Rocky Horror and it was the best time at Rocky ever! Laura stole the joke of the week from Michael and Evo's Wingin' It podcast. The Rocky Horror/Shock Treatment box set is now out. Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin died this weekend due to being stabbed in the heart by the barb of a stingray. Is your cast doing a tribute? Sean reviews the cult horror movie Sleepaway Camp. SPOILER ALERT! Bryan from Vineland, New Jersey wrote us a very nice letter. He asked about dual-part casting, even multi-part casting. Our cast, when we are shorthanded, often casts Eddie/Dr. Scott, Eddie/Crim, Crim/Dr. Scott. What does your cast do? Can you get really creative with this? Does it bother your audience? We also get into a discussion of bell shows. The Sweet Transvestites of Paris, France wrote to us to let us know that they recently stopped the film and saved Frank at the last minute. Personally, our cast Lambda Psi Phi almost never uses Trixies, nor do we cast a trannie chorus. N9 used to use a stripper Trixie. Our good buddy Alisachan (whose pay website we'll plug) once played a candy Trixie for N9 and when some guys in the audience started yelling for her to take it off, she hit them really hard with candy.
